League Recognizes Offense, Defense, and Special Teams Standouts

ATLANTA, GEORGIA – The National Arena League is proud to announce the league’s recipients of the Week Eleven Players of the Week. The league had three outstanding contests from this past weekend, and from those games the following winners for Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week were selected:

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Mason Espinosa (QB, Columbus Lions)

There weren’t any Tigers involved, but the Lions and Grizzlies battled this past weekend in a match where both teams had large playoff implications. It was Quarterback Mason Espinosa, stepping in for starter Darren Daniels, who was the star of the show. Espinosa completed 24 of 36 passes for 262 yards and six touchdowns, versus no interceptions. His team now sits at 6-3 with an important matchup against the Corpus Christi Rage looming.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Erik McIntosh (DB, Jacksonville Sharks)

One of the most exciting plays in football is the interception return for a score, or a “Pick-Six” for short. In the first quarter of the Jacksonville Sharks resounding win over the Corpus Christi Rage, Defensive Back Erik McIntosh intercepted a Jake Jablonski pass, and raced 42 yards for an early score. McIntosh also contributed three tackles and an additional pass break up on the evening.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nick Belcher (K, Jacksonville Sharks)

Surprise, Surprise…Nick Belcher of the Jacksonville Sharks was once again named Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the place kickers fifth honor on the year. Against the Rage, Belcher hit a 33 yard field goal, hit a deuce, and was 8 of 9 on extra points.

Week twelve in the NAL features three games on Saturday night as the High Country Grizzlies travel to the Lehigh Valley to take on the Steelhawks, the Jacksonville Sharks take on the Dayton Wolfpack, and Columbus Lions host the Rage. In the weekend finale, the Georgia Firebirds will travel to Mexico to battle the Monterrey Steel on Monday, June 5th.
