JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks have announced today that they have signed defensive lineman Damien Jacobs.

Damien Jacobs (6’3”, 300) will enter the 2017 roster after previously joining the Sharks for training camp but did not make a final roster spot. Prior to this year, Jacobs spent two seasons as an NFL Free Agent and signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2014 as an undrafted free agent. He competed through the majority of the Bill’s 2014 training camp but then was released by former Bill’s Head Coach Doug Marrone, who is now the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacobs spent the beginning of his collegiate football career with East Mississippi Community college, a NJAA powerhouse and later made famous by the Netflix Original Series “Last Chance U.” During his time at EMCC the Lions won the 2014 NJCAA National Championship with an undefeated record of 12-0. During that season he recorded 47 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. In result of that season, Jacobs was rated a four-star JUCO prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com and received a scholarship to the University of Florida.

As a Gator, Jacobs spent his final two years playing in 23 games, racking up 34 tackles, six for loss, and 2.5 sacks alongside of Jaguars 2015 first-round pick Dante Fowler Jr. During Jacobs’ final at Florida had 24 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and one interception. The 300 pound lineman had a career high six tackles against Georgia Southern and was awarded the Gator’s Patrick Courage Award.

Jacobs attended H.L. Bourgeois High School in Louisiana where he had 91 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles all during his senior season. As a result, Jacobs was rated the 75th best defensive lineman in the nation and 3rd best in Louisiana by Rivals.com. He also earned The Courier / Daily Comet’s Defensive MVP for Class 5A. The highly recruited senior lineman received offers from Florida State University, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Nebraska. Before choosing the JUCO route to kick off his collegiate career, Jacobs verbally committed to Florida State.
