Albany, GA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (9-1) rallied in the second half to finish off the regular season with a win against the Georgia Firebirds Saturday night. The team hit the road and found a way to win as they defeated the Georgia Firebirds (2-7), 51-26.
The Steelhawks didn’t start the game as they would have liked. After giving up a deep touchdown pass to Terrence Ebagua (nine catches, 101 yds) just one minute into the game, they found themselves down for the first time in four games. The Steelhawks would answer right back on their next drive, tying things up behind a rumbling FB Wyreaz Bradley (22yds, 2 tds) who tallied all eleven yards on the drive. DB Dom Joseph (2 ints) would give the ’Hawks a chance to go ahead with an interception, but a fumbled snap on the ensuing play gave Georgia the ball back and they capitalized with QB Gregory Hankerson (15 yds rushing) getting his first of three quarter back keepers for touchdowns. Receivers Warren Oliver Jr. (4 catches for 42 yds, 2 tds) and Darius Prince (3 catches for 20 yds, 2 tds) would tally their own scoring grabs before the half. The difference at halftime was a made extra point in favor of the Steelhawks; halftime score: Lehigh Valley 19, Georgia 18.
The sloppy play continued into the third quarter but Lehigh Valley would rally in the fourth, scoring twenty five unanswered points. As the defense created three turnovers; the offense converted for points on the board – Oliver Jr. would grab another pass for a score on fourth down, Bradley would punch in his second of the night, WR Brandon Renford (5 catches for 67 yds) would snag a touchdown, and K Spencer Hotaling would hit two deuces. Final score: Lehigh Valley 51, Georgia 26.
