ATLANTA, GEORGIA – The National Arena League is proud to announce the league’s recipients of the Week Fourteen Players of the Week. The league had two outstanding contests from this past weekend, and from those games the following winners for Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week were selected:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: London Crawford (WR, Monterrey Steel)
It is a tough task to go thru an entire season undefeated, and the Monterrey Steel made it their mission to not allow the Jacksonville Sharks to complete that mission. Led by Wide Receiver London Crawford, who had eight catches for 79 yards and three touchdowns, the Steel were able to hand the Sharks their only loss of the season defeating them 44-37. Crawford and the Steel are hoping for deja’ veux this coming Saturday as the two teams meet in the first round of the playoffs.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Logan Ingle (DL, Columbus Lions)
The Lions are riding high on the backs of a six-game winning streak heading into their first round playoff game against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. Their NAL Defensive Player of the Year candidate is a big reason for their string of success, dominating opposing offensive lines with his pass rush. Against the Georgia Firebirds this past weekend, Ingle was once again a force, notching two sacks to go along with four tackles.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Rutherford (K, Monterrey Steel)
The Steel are heading into the post-season clicking at the right time, and doing it in all three phases of the game. Their strong legged Place Kicker is a big reason why the Steel have one of the top Special Teams units. In their win over the formally undefeated Sharks, Rutherford overcame some snap and hold issues to go 2 of 3 on extra points, but also nailed two huge field goals of 35 and 34 yards respectively.
The first ever National Arena League Regular season has come to an end, and after a strong season of play the playoffs have been set. On Friday, June 23rd at 7:30 p.m. the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (#2 seed) will host the Columbus Lions (#3 seed) inside of the PPL Center. On Saturday, June 24th at 7pm the Jacksonville Sharks (#1 seed) will host the Monterrey Steel (#4 seed). The National Arena League Championship game will be played in the city of the highest seed remaining after Round One is complete.
