PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths are entering their inaugural season in 2018 and are proud to announce the hiring of veteran coach James Fuller as their Head Coach for their inaugural season. Fuller has an extensive 17 year history in coaching football and has an extensive players career in the NFL, NFL-Europe and the NCAA.
Fuller was most recently the Offensive Coordinator for the Bismarck Bucks of the CIF in 2017 where he helped the Bucks to a CIF conference semi-final. In 2016, Fuller was a Defensive Back coach in the 91st East West College Shrine Game. Fuller spent five seasons with the the Richmond Raiders (2011-2015) of the Professional Indoor Football League championship game. The Raiders achieved a 10-2 record in 2012, along with their first playoff berth and their first PIFL Championship appearance. They had the #1 scoring offense and #2 scoring defense in the league, recording 60 points per game and allowing 49. In his first year with the Raiders in 2011, Fuller led the team to a 6-6 record and a division championship game. In 2010, he was the Defensive Coordinator for the Dallas Vigilantes of the AFL and finished the season as Interim Head Coach. Fuller took a year off from coaching in 2009 after spending three seasons with the Dallas Desperados (2006-2008) of the AFL. During his time in Dallas he was the Defensive Coordinator, Wide Receiver and Defensive Backs Coach taking Dallas to the playoffs in each of his years with the team. During the 2004-2005 seasons, Fuller was a Defensive Coordinator for the Philadelphia Soul, however, in 2005, he became Interim Head Coach after the fifth game of the season. From 2002-2003, Fuller was Head Coach of the Bakersfield Blitz and won the Western Conference championship in 2002. He began his arena coaching career in 1999 as an Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Portland/Oklahoma franchise of the AFL.
Prior to coaching, Fuller also played in the NFL and NFL-Europe. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1992 and played there for three seasons before leaving for the Scotland Claymores of the NFL-Europe. In 1996, Fuller led the NFL-Europe in interceptions. Fuller eventually went back to the NFL, finishing his playing career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996 where he finished his playing career.
James Fuller is a native of Tacoma, Washington and holds a degree in criminal justice from Portland State University, while at Portland State he was a two-time All-American Safety.
