Mammoths add Damond Smith to roster


Former Tampa Bay Storm Defensive Back joins Mammoths

PORTLAND- Damond Smith (5’11, 184) signs with the Maine Mammoths for his second year of arena football. Smith spent 2017 with the Arizona Rattlers and Salt Lake Screaming Eagles off-season training camp. Smith played for the Iowa Barnstormers, Tampa Bay Storm, and Cleveland Gladiators during the 2017 season. Smith didn’t have playing time with the Rattlers in 2017. With the Storm, Smith recorded 8.5 tackles and one pass breakup. In the same year with the Gladiators, Smith had 2.5 tackles and two pass breakups.

Smith started college at Western Michigan in 2009. In 2009, Smith played in 11 games, recorded 26 tackles and two sacks. In his sophomore year in 2010, Smith played in seven games. In those seven games, Smith had 29 tackles and one forced fumble. Smith transferred to South Alabama and finished his college career. In his time with South Alabama, Smith only played four games due to violating team policy.

Smith  is a native of Ecorse, Michigan and played high school football at Inkster High School in Inkster, Michigan. In his high school career, Smith had 136 tackles and nine interceptions. Smith was named All-Conference and All-Metro in the state game when he was a senior.

The Maine Mammoths are members of the National Arena League (NAL).
