Mammoths prepared to kick off first game in team history
PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths are playing their first game in team history on Saturday, April 7, 2018 against the Massachusetts Pirates in the DCU Center at 7:00 pm (ET). Both teams are set to play their first games, as the Pirates are among the three newest teams to the National Arena League (Maine Mammoths, Massachusetts Pirates, and Carolina Cobras).
The Mammoths released their 24-man roster on Thursday, April 5, 2018. QB Jonathan Bane is the favorite to lead the herd in week one with quarterback Michael German as the backup. Their targets this year are Wide Receivers Devin Wilson, Maurice Dupree, Edgar Poe, Maurice Dupree, Tres Houston, Ricky Hunt, and Derrick Macon.
On the defense, the Mammoths have DL James Middleton, Eric Banford, Javaughn Johnson, Jarius Spain, Kyle Powell, and Derrick Lyles wreaking havoc on the offense. For Linebackers, Haylon Jacobs and Niko Sierra will be causing trouble for the opposing team’s quarterback. Defensive Backs Brendan Murphy, Damond Smith, and Tevin Creeks will help the defense and the Mammoths out by making sure the receivers don’t get the ball.
Second Team All-NAL Special Teams Kicker Brandon Rutherford will also join the team to be the kicker after his successful 2017 season with the Monterrey Steel.
The Mammoths are on the road this week, but are home on Saturday, April 14, 2018 against the Cobras for their first home game in team history.
