The Massachusetts Pirates have singed center Ruben Carter for the 2019 season.  Carter, 6’-4,” 312 lbs. from Miami, Florida, was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016 by the Miami Dolphins. Later that season he joined the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. In 2017 he was in camps with the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Last season Carter signed contracts with the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League and the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.

Carter played his college ball at Florida State from 2011-2014. After a redshirt freshman season, Carter saw action in five games 2012 as FSU won the Atlantic Coast Conference and defeated Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl. In 2013 he took the field 11 times as the Seminoles went undefeated and won the National Championship defeating Auburn 34-31. In 2014 he was part of 13 and 1 season and a third straight ACC title. Their only loss was to Oregon in the Rose Bowl.  In 2015 Carter went to graduate school at Toledo where he played his final colligate season.

Pirates President Jawad Yatim said, "Ruben's film really stuck out to me as it seemed he put a defender on the ground almost every play, it was quite impressive honestly. He gets off the ball quickly, he's explosive, polished and is a great athlete for his size. He has an outstanding pedigree, which usually means he's had great coaching in the past. He understands what it takes to win a championship; winning a national title at Florida State in 2013. He's a great locker room guy as well. We look forward to seeing Ruben in a Pirates uniform this upcoming season."
