The Massachusetts Pirates professional arena football team in Worcester has signed wide receiver Jhajuan Seales for the 2019 season. Seales enjoyed a productive career at Oklahoma State from 2014 – 2017 before signing free agent contracts with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A native of Port Arthur, TX, the 6”-2,” 189 lb. receiver made an impact at Oklahoma State as a red shirt freshman as he had 39 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns. His best year as a Cowboy was his senior season where he had 37 catches for 615 yards and four scores. He finished his college career with 112 receptions for 1,785 yards averaging 15.9 yards per catch and 12 touchdowns.
Seales describes himself as a physical receiver who can take the top off of a defense and said his time in camp with the Bears taught him the ins and outs of professional football.
“My Chicago Bears experience was a great experience to get to learn about the NFL and how the business works. One player goes down and another has to step in as you always have to make sure you are always on top of your game and you have to be ready to go,” Seales said.
Jawad Yatim, President of the Pirates likes the physical attributes that Seales can bring to the Pirates receiving corps.
"Jhajuan is a fantastic acquisition for us. I'm real excited to bring him on board. He's was an explosive athlete averaging essentially 16 yards per reception throughout his 43 games as a Cowboy in Stillwater. He's a strong and physical presence at the wide receiver position (lifting 21 reps of 225 lbs. at his pro day). He's a great blocker too. He can create separation with his speed as evident by his 4.51 40 yard time at his pro day. Has great balance and hand-eye coordination and is a smooth and natural route runner. Has the ability to exploit man on man situations with his size and leaping ability as he posted a 41.5 inch vertical at his pro day as well. Jhajuan catches the ball well in contested situations and has been exposed to some big time environments at a young age starting every game as a red-shirt freshman in the Big 12. I think he can come in and be a very productive player for us. He's got a bright future ahead of himself and we are happy to have him," Yatim said.
This will be Seales’ first experience in arena football and he is aware that wide out is a glamor position. As he gets ready to join the Pirates he does want to clear up any misconceptions regarding receivers.
“We do get a lot of praise for what we do. People like to call us “divas” but we don’t feel that way. We like to get dirty and get in there. We have an edge,” he said.
