BOONE — The High Country Grizzlies indoor football team added six players to its current roster, including a Boone product who doesn’t have ties to Appalachian State.
Former Watauga tight end Mitchell Harris signed with the Grizzlies last week after playing with the Pioneers from 2005-07. Harris played with the Pioneers in both of their state 4-A Western Regional championship games.
Harris played for the Rutherford County Raiders, a semi-pro football team, the Blue Ridge Raiders semi-pro football team based in Asheville.
The Grizzlies also signed quarterback Reed Gurchiek, defensive back Brandon Fuentes, offensive and defensive lineman Joshua Davis, receiver Jason Williams, receiver/defensive back Daniel Lee, receiver William Roman and defensive back Denzel Heath Sr.
Gurchiek is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound rookie quarterback from Cumberland (Tenn.) University. He is originally from Cottontown, Tenn.
Fuentes (5-11, 185) played defensive back at St. John Fisher College. He also returned punts and kickoffs.
Davis (6-4, 300-pounds) played collegiately at Cincinnati. Williams (5-3, 200) played receiver at Catawba College, Lee was a receiver and defensive end at Shaw University, Roman (6-0, 218) played receiver at Montclair State and Heath played defensive back at Hampton College.
