Two All-American players join the 2017 roster
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that offensive lineman J.B. Walton Jr. and linebacker / defensive back Sosthene Kapepula have signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for the 2017 season.
Sosthene Kapepula (6’3, 220) will enter his rookie season with the Sharks playing both linebacker and defensive back. Kapepula, spent his college career at Wesley College, a Division III school in Dover, Delaware. In 2013, Kapepula was a Div. III All-American at linebacker, earning 1st AFCA Honors with an impressive 110 tackles, 19 for tackles for a loss, five interceptions, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble for the Wolverines. As a junior he ranked second on the team for interceptions and was a three time ECAC Player of the Week. The Wolverines key linebacker helped the team to a 10-3 overall record, including two Div. III playoff victories and an appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals where they ended their season on a close 62-59 defeat against Mount Union, one win shy of the National Championship.
During his sophomore year, Kapepula was a Division III Second Team All-American, leading the team with 120 tackles, 13 for a loss, nine pass breakups, and four forced fumbles. The sophomore, was honored as the team Most Valuable Player following the Wolverines 10-2 season. During his freshman year, Kapepula earned ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year, playing in all 14 games, recording 65 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions. Kapepula is a native of the Congo and after his arrival in the U.S., he played football for the 2009 Football State Champions Sherwood High School Warriors in Sandy Spring, Maryland. In addition to football, Kapepula played basketball, track and volleyball.
Jason Walton Jr. (6’3”, 315) will enter his second season in arena/indoor football and first season with the Jacksonville Sharks. Walton began his professional career with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks in 2014 where he played in all 13 games for the Steelhawks on the offensive line. During his single season with the Steelhawks, Walton helped the team to a National Conference title and an appearance in the PIFL Cup against the Nashville Venom.
J.B. Walton finished his college career at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he spent two seasons, starting in 24 games for the Bobcats earning Preseason All-Conference honors in 2010 and All-Conference Honorable mention in 2009. Prior to West Virginia Wesleyan, Walton spent his first two years at Penn State University, where he played offensive line under legendary coach Joe Paterno. During his career at Penn State, Walton started in eight games and appeared in the 2009 Rose Bowl with the Nittany Lions, before transferring to West Virginia Wesleyan.
Walton is a native of Indian Head, Maryland and was a star lineman for Lackey High School. During his high school career he was first-team All-State his senior year and earned All-American honors by Rivals.com, Superprep, and Reebok. The highly recruited offensive lineman was also awarded ESPN’s #1 Ranked Offensive Guard and Lackey High School Football Most Valuable Player his senior year.
