ALBANY EMPIRE BRINGS OLYMPIC SPEED TO THE CAPITAL REGION

ALBANY- The Albany Empire announces that Romario McKenzie has signed to join the 2021 season, bringing Olympic speed to the Capital Region.

Romario is a wide receiver out of Central State University. He is an explosive speedster at 6'2" and 180 lbs. He hails from Kingston, Jamaica.

He was the first High School team captain to lead his school to 3-peat National Track Titles. He earned several full scholarship offers at the division 1 and 2 levels as well as professional track offers and endorsements but chose to accept passage to Central State with its rich HBCU tradition. He earned multiple titles there as Athlete of the Year and Conference MVP. As a freshman, he won the 60m indoor and 200m outdoor, earning titles as GMAC Conference Champion. He has competed and won titles at meets in Europe and all over the world for his home country Jamaica. He has been an Olympic trial qualifier twice but fell short and has now turned his full attention to football.

McKenzie said “Thank you to the Empire coaches and front office for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to be able to learn from the best. As well as put work in with the league’s most elite athletes to be better individually, and most importantly help the team however possible to earn another championship. I am extremely grateful to be here and I’m looking forward to giving 110% every time my number is called”

Albany Empire Head Coach Tom Menas shared his excitement about the addition of Romario McKenzie “One thing that a coach looks for when recruiting is a tangible asset in the player, Romario's, is speed. Simply put, he is one of the fastest athletes in football today. In all leagues indoor and out. We are anxious to take that speed and let it translate to touchdowns.”

Romario has a strong work ethic that pairs beautifully with his on-field intelligence. He is involved in charitable work throughout the year, serving the needs of his communities where he works and plays.

The Empire’s first home game is April 23rd, 2022 when they host the Jacksonville Sharks at the MVP Arena. Season tickets are available by calling 518-714-2200 Ext 101 or emailing mwoods@albanyempirenal.com
