Cobras Add Former ECU Defensive Back Tim Irvin

Hall of Fame Dallas cowboys' Michael Irvin's nephew signs with cobras

GREENSBORO –  The Carolina Cobras announce the signing of defensive back Timothy Irvin who enters rookie season with the Carolina Cobras. 

Tim Irvin (5’9, 185) finished his college career in 2019 at Delta State University in Mississippi where he was a graduate transfer who played in 10 games, starting in nine of them at safety. Irvin racked up 49 tackles, six pass breakups, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one tackle for the loss. Prior to the graduate transfer, Irvin played for East Carolina University where he spent the 2016-2017 seasons. During his career as a pirate he played in eight games where he amassed 34 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Irvin began his collegiate career at Auburn University he played in ten games as a true freshman recording 18 tackles as Tiger before he transferred to ECU for his sophomore season. 

Coach Res said of Irvin, “We are excited to welcome Tim to Cobra Nation. A lot of people in NC know of Tim from when he was at ECU. Tim is a dynamic player who can play multiple positions and will be an immediate impact in the NAL. 

Irvin is a native of Miami, FL where he attended Westminster Christian High School. He was a Top-50 player in the state of Florida and a Top-150 athlete in the nation (Scouts.com, Rivals.com). Irvin played football, basketball, and track at Westminster Christian. Irvin earned All-American and All-State honors in football while playing three positions throughout his high school career (running back, receiver, and safety). Overall he totaled 2,100 career rushing yards, 1,145 receiving yards, 231 tackles, and 43 total touchdowns. The nephew of five-time Pro Bowl, three-time Superbowl champion and NFL Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Michael Irvin was a blue chip four-star college prospect highly recruited across the nation with offers from Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Michigan State, and his uncle’s alma mater the University of Miami, despite his hometown & uncle’s legacy at “The U” he verbally committed to the University of Texas at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl but later officially committed to Auburn.
