Cobras Add Receiver Traveon Samuel to Roster

GREENSBORO – The 2018 National Arena League champion Carolina Cobras announced today the signing of Wide Receiver, Traveon Samuel, for the 2021 season. This will be his rookie season of arena football.

Traveon Samuel (5’7, 175) began his college career with Louisville where he spent three seasons with the Cardinals under head coach Bobby Petrino (2015-2017). During his tenure at Louisville, Samuel started at Wide Receiver and Kick Returner and collected 1,618 all-purpose yards with 162 rushing yards, 710 return yards, and 746 receiving yards. Samuel’s also boasted a 100-yard kick return touchdown against Clemson where he became the first Louisville freshman to return a kick for a touchdown since 2006. Samuel transferred to Troy in 2018 but eventually finished his college career at Memphis where he recorded 15 carries for 78 yards, six receptions for 26 yards, and returned punts for 106 yards on 13 returns. He finished his senior year with 210 all-purpose yards, including a season-high run of 18 yards against South Alabama and a season-high punt return of 77 yards in a win against USF.

Coach Res said that “We are excited to have such a dynamic player coming into camp. Traveon has the ability to score anytime he touches the ball. He had a couple opportunities with NFL but like everything else Covid put a hold on that and many other young players who were invited for workouts. Looking forward to seeing the WR group compete in camp.”

Samuel is from Phenix City, AL and played for Jamey Dubose at Central High School. During his high school career, he was a four-star prospect, ranking 14th in the nation at Wide Receiver according to ESPNU. Samuel collected more than 5,000 all-purpose yards and 60 touchdowns in his high school career. Despite receiving offers from big-name schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and Florida State, Samuel committed to Louisville his senior year.
