Cobras Signs Former AFL Receiver BJ Bunn

Philadelphia Soul Receiver Returns to his Home State

 

GREENSBORO –  The Carolina Cobras announce the signing of wide receiver BJ Bunn for his second season of arena football and first with the Carolina Cobras. 

 

BJ Bunn (6’0, 205) played for the Philadelphia Soul for his rookie season in 2019 where he totaled 650 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Bunn helped lead the Soul to Arena Bowl 32 against the Albany Empire where he put up 10 catches for 129 yards and one touchdown. After his season with the Soul, Bunn played in the Your Call Football League (YCF) as a wide receiver. The pilot season for YCF was monitored by both CFL and NFL teams where Bunn got opportunities to play around talent coming from both levels.

 

Coach Res said that adding another next level player like Bunn to the roster is big for the continued success the organization has had. He also stated that, Bunn will cause fits to opposing defenses. Bunn being from the Triad area is big as well for the community and most importantly his family. We are excited to continue to add next level talent to our roster with more to come!

 

Bunn spent his college years at the University of North Carolina Pembroke where he played wide receiver for the Braves. During his college career he totaled 237 receptions for 3,072 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in only two seasons as a starter. Bunn also displayed his talent on special teams as he totaled 208 yards on kick/punt returner. In 2015 Bunn set a then school record of 12 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns on the road at Catawba College. During Bunn's tenure at UNC Pembroke he earned Football Gazette All-American, Football Gazette All-Super Region 2, and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region 2 honors. 

 

Bunn is a native of Burlington, NC where he attended Alamance High School. As a senior Bunn totaled a state-best 91 catches for 1,551 yards and 14 touchdowns as a All-State high school player. Bunn helped lead the Warriors to a 9-4 record and the second round of the state playoffs.  Bunn earned many accolades during his high school career including multiple All-State accolades, two consecutive All-Region, All-Area, All-conference and four-straight academic All-Conference awards. In addition, Bunn earned region offensive player of the year honors. In Bunn’s junior year he caught 60 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bunn was also a multi-sport athlete as he started for the Warriors basketball team and averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.5 assists per game.
