Cobras Strike Down Sharks in Regular Season Finale 50-37

Greensboro, NC – Second-place Carolina (9-4) hosted first-place Jacksonville (10-2) in the final week of the regular season. While the Sharks secured their place at the top of the leaderboard for the regular season, Carolina had to beat Jacksonville to stop the idle San Antonio Gunslingers from overtaking second place.

Jacksonville sat key starters, including quarterback Sam Castronova, in a game with no consequences leading up to the first round of playoffs on August 5th.  Carolina was leading from the beginning. They outscored the Sharks 14-0 in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the first Sharks touchdown thanks to a long pass from backup quarterback Eddie Brill, Jr. to Jenson Stoshak. Kamrin Solomon scored the second touchdown of the game for Jacksonville. Carl Meyer put the Sharks within five with a deuce in the second, but a Carolina field goal ended the half with the Cobras up 24-16 on the Sharks.

Carolina started the second half off with a deuce. However, another Solomon touchdown put the Sharks within three; he ended the regular season with 30 touchdowns to lead the league. Carolina scored the other two touchdowns in the quarter and took a 40-23 lead into the final frame. Brill, Jr. started the fourth quarter by scoring on a quarterback sneak at Carolina’s one-yard line. Stoshak later scored his second of the night and 12th of the season to get the Sharks back within ten. Marvin Ross took in an interception to set up a Sharks comeback, but the offense could not deliver against the strong Carolina defense. The last score of the night came from a Carolina field goal as they beat the Sharks 50-37 in the final game of the regular season. Brill, Jr. threw 175 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Solomon had 77 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
