COLUMBUS SECURES KENDRICK WASHINGTON FOR 2022 SEASON

Kendrick Washington, one of the leaders on the dominant defensive front for the Lions last season, is staying in Columbus for the 2022 season. Washington played as an outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid and will continue that in 2022.

The veteran defender was one of the most durable and reliable players for Columbus last season, appearing in all 10 games for the Lions’ defense.

Washington’s 6’4” frame made him a difficult matchup for opposing offensive lineman and allowed him to disrupt passing lanes at times, even finishing the year with two official passes broken up. He even blocked a field goal attempt during the season, one of seven players in the league to do that.

Overall, he finished the season with eight tackles and was second on the team with four sacks, which was fifth-best in the entire NAL. Working in tandem with Ulric Jones and Kewan Alfred, the Lions’ defensive front tormented quarterbacks for all 10 games, leading the NAL with 18 sacks.

Washington also led the team in fumble recoveries with three and intercepted one pass during the season. As Columbus looks to make another NAL championship run, Washington is a key piece on a defense that will look to dominate once again.

With the NAL Ironman rules, Washington is now listed as a fullback/linebacker on the official roster and will definitely have a role in the offense this season. With Corey Crawford already locked in as a potential fullback for running plays, the Lions could utilize Washington’s length in passing situations.
