Flight Sign Crew of Former NFL/AFL Players

TRENTON, NJ - The Jersey Flight added to their loaded roster by formally announcing the signings of DB Tevin Homer, WR Jared Dangerfield, and OL Jakobi Smith. All three players signed as UDFA with NFL teams and were impact players during the 2019 AFL season.

“The last few weeks have been very good in Jersey,” Flight GM/HC Terry Foster said. “Being able to bring in guys that have played at the highest levels and understand what it takes to win championships, to compete with the men that were already on this roster has us very excited about our inaugural NAL season.” Foster said.

Jared Dangerfield WR Western Kentucky University

Dangerfield joins the Flight after most recently spending two seasons with the Washington Valor. Dangerfield broke out in 2019, leading the Valor with 70 catches, 629 yards and eight touchdowns.

He won an ArenaBowl championship during his rookie season in the AFL in 2018 while teammates with Flight QB Warren Smith and defensive coach Alvin Ray Jackson.

“Jared Dangerfield has been on our radar since the Pandemic caused the cancelation of the 2020 season. Having him in camp and competing alongside a very talented receiving core, is going to cause some headaches for opposing defenses.  "Danger" has strong hands and the ability to get open on every snap whether in high motion or from stationary, we expect big plays in 2021,” Foster said.

During his first season at Western Kentucky, Dangerfield broke the school's single season receptions record with 69. His 11 receiving touchdowns tied the single season school record. He was second in the C-USA conference in touchdown receptions and 13th in the entire nation. He finished the year with 825 yards.

Dangerfield’s following act was even better, breaking his own receptions record with an 82 catch season. He posted 844 yards and eight touchdowns. His college career at WKU impressed Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints, as they signed Dangerfield as a UDFA in 2016.

Jared’s brother Jordan Dangerfield is a safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tevin Homer DB Florida Atlantic University

Homer was named second team All-Arena in 2019 during his rookie season in the AFL. He was a key contributor to the Albany Empire’s ArenaBowl 32 run. He led the AFL in tackles with a total of 110. He recorded four interceptions and was considered a prototype frontside corner.

“Tevin is a guy that I got to play against in the AFL,” Flight Defensive Coach Alvin Ray Jackson said. “Plenty of talent, plenty of upside. And it showed because he was rewarded with an All-Arena call last year. He is a long DB with range and IQ, fits in to what we wanna do perfectly. I can’t wait to get him out there so he can show what he is capable of,” Jackson said.

Following his college career at FAU, Homer signed in the NFL after an impressive tryout with Washington. He played in preseason games and was on the roster during training camp but was released before the season. Homer signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018.

GM/HC Terry Foster added: “Tevin Homer, very physical defensive back that fits our mode. Blue-collar,  hardworking play-maker. Once communication between him and I began and after watching his film his signing was a no brainer,” Foster said.

Tevin’s brother Travis Homer is a running back for the Seattle Seahawks.

Jakobi Smith OL Florida Atlantic University

Another former FAU Owl, Smith and Homer are close friends who will reunite as teammates once again. Smith saw time as a starter at RG in four seasons, including a start against #2 Alabama during his redshirt freshman season in 2014.

“Jakobi is a very versatile lineman that can make every block and play every position on the offensive front,” Foster said.

During Smith’s redshirt senior season in 2017 he became a full time starter and helped FAU win the C-USA Championship. While at FAU he blocked for current Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary.

Following his college career, Smith signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a UDFA. Smith began his arena career with the Albany Empire in 2019, winning ArenaBowl 32. He was also briefly a member of the Massachusetts Pirates.
