Flight sign DB Svante Davenport

TRENTON - The Jersey Flight have signed veteran DB Svante Davenport. Davenport most recently played for the Washington Valor in 2018 and 2019. Over two seasons he recorded three interceptions and was a mainstay in the Valor secondary.

Davenport was a key part of the Valors 2018 postseason run which saw them win ArenaBowl XXXI. In the ArenaBowl, Davenport was named the Defensive Player of the Game after he recorded an interception and a forced fumble. He was teammates with Flight quarterback Warren Smith and coach Alvin Ray Jackson during the ArenaBowl run. Davenport recorded three interceptions in four games against the Albany Empire during his time in Washington.

Davenport played in the NAL in 2017 during the league's inaugural season with the Monterrey Steel. Davenport recorded seven interceptions and one pick-six and was awarded 2nd Team All-NAL. He was teammates with Flight DL Jeremiah Zene Jr. in Monterrey. Davenport signed with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks in 2018 but was signed by the Valor before appearing in any games with Lehigh Valley.

Prior to his time in the NAL Davenport played for the Alabama Hammers and the Nashville Venom formerly of the PIFL. He played college football at North Alabama and is an Alabama native who was a star high school football player in the state.
