Injury Report: Week 3

A Battle For First Place Set for Saturday

ATLANTA – After two exciting weeks of over the wall and off the net arena football the National Arena League enters week 3 with two great matchups this week. Saturday, April 22 the (2-0) San Antonio Gunslingers hit the road to face the (1-0) defending NAL Champions the Albany Empire at the MVP Arena in Albany New York with kickoff set for 7pm.
Sunday, April 23rd the (1-1) Jacksonville Sharks take on the (1-0) Fayetteville Mustangs in the Crown Coliseum at 3:00pm. The Games both will have an impact on the standings as the Gunslingers can remain at the top of the NAL with a win this week or sink based on the outcome of the game. The Mustangs after a major first team victory could advance to 2-0 and find themselves tied for first if both home teams win this weekend.

This weekend the Carolina Cobras (1-1)  and the West Texas Warbirds (0-2) both enjoy bye weeks following their exciting matchup last weekend which ended in a dramatic deuce to win the game for the Cobras 64-62 in Greensboro, NC, the (0-2) Orlando Predators will have time to regroup as they enter a bye week as well.

Both games this weekend can be watched online at the NAL YouTube Channel or simply visit the league website at nationalarenaleague.com where you can find our games listed on our home page. See full National Arena League  injury report below.

Albany Empire (1-0)

After an impressive home opener win, new Empire head Coach Damon Ware moves on to face perhaps a tougher matchup this week against the (1-0) Fayetteville Mustangs who defeated the same opponent. Coach Ware will look to slow down the high scoring Mustangs but will do so without one of his starters. See full Empire report below.

FB/LB - Tyler Adkins (Out, Placed on Short-Term Injury Reserve)

San Antonio Gunslingers (2-0)
Coach Shaw and the “Slingers'' are off to a RED HOT Texas Start winning at home and recently on the road against a very good Jacksonville Sharks team. What was considered one of the toughest three-week schedules in the NAL the Gunslingers had great success as they now face the defending NAL Champs on road in Albany, NY. after two weeks of tough opponents winning both games by 1-point. A Gunslingers victory this week could be a huge milestone in a path which could lead to a playoff destined team in only their second year as a franchise. See the injury report from San Antonio.

OL/DL - Donte Angus, Ankle (Out)

Fayetteville Mustangs (1-0)

Looking to continue to impress NAL fans after a big margin first victory as a franchise the only thing more impressive would be their next win against a historically successful NAL franchise the Jacksonville Sharks (1-1). Even the Sharks who are looking for a bounce back in week 3 know the Mustangs have enough talent to pose a threat

WR - Julius Gregory (Out, Placed on Short-Term Injury Reserve)

Jacksonville Sharks (1-1)
After a nailbiter in the Shark tank Coach Gibson and his Shark look to hit the road to avenge a victory to set their record straight to 2-1, they would have to do so against one of the best sleeper franchises in the NAL as many had Fayetteville predicted to finish last in 2023. The Mustangs proved to be much better than expected yet the Sharks proved to be a hard team to beat making this matchup a potential game of the week. See full injury report below.

WR/DB - Darien Townsend (Out, Placed on Season Ending Injury)

WR/LB - Khalil McClain (Out, Placed on Season Ending Injury)

West Texas Warbirds (0-2)

Despite a close game the Warbirds did not come out on top in Carolina they fall to 0-2 but not without news breaking performances from several Warbirds players. West Texas has proved to have a roster that will gain wins this season. Remaining healthy now will be important for the young franchise. After a dogfight in Greensboro, several Warbirds went down to injury going into their bye week, hoping for refuel and repair fans will be excited to see them back in action.

WR/DB - Joseph Nuttal, (Out, Placed on Short-Term Injury Reserve)

Orlando Predators (0-2)

After a tough start to 2023, the hardest working medical team in the NAL has made great progress for the Orlando Predators and a NAL bye week certainly help getting the Predators back to full strength going into their next game had a battered line up going into week two to face the Empire last weekend for Albany’s first game of the year. A healthy roster will improve a Herky Walls Predators team in week four.
