SHARKS SHOCKED IN SAN ANTONIO

San Antonio, TX - The San Antonio Gunslingers played like a team still in playoff contention as they shocked the Jacksonville Sharks last Saturday by a score of 60-52 in front of a crowd of approximately five thousand fans at the Freeman Coliseum.

San Antonio’s effort was led by quarterback Robert “The Duke” Kent, who completed 21 of 29 passes for six touchdowns with one interception and picked up a Pierre Turner fumble for a touchdown. The Duke spread the touchdown passes around, with three going to Phillip Barnett (six catches for 67 yards), two to Kali Rashaad, and one to Anthony "Juice" Robinson. History was made by San Antonio’s Drew Pearson as he kicked the first NAL deuce in the Freeman Coliseum. Pearson celebrated his feat by kicking three more deuces in the game and possibly setting a new NAL single game record.

Jacksonville battled all night long, led by quarterback Arvell “Velly” Nelson. Velly completed 33 of 48 passes for 342 yards and five touchdowns with one interception behind an offensive line that gave him a lot of time to pass from the pocket. Nelson found Kamrin Solomon in the end zone three times along with Daniel Bender and Milton Williams Jr. But the Gunslingers secondary harried his receivers all night long and pushed Nelson to the limits of his passing accuracy. The Sharks fell to 7-6, leaving their playoff seeding still unsettled while the Gunslingers improved to 4-7.

Both teams close out regular season play this week on July 23rd, with San Antonio concluding their campaign at Albany and Jacksonville hosting Carolina.
