Week 7 Preview: Sharks vs. Cobras

GREENSBORO -  This week the Cobras return to the Snake Pit, Saturday, July 10th with kickoff set for 7pm. The Carolina Cobras (1-3) will take on the Jacksonville Sharks (1-3) in Greensboro NC, with an ideal opportunity for the Cobras to strike for their first home victory of the season against a familiar opponent. Coming off a bye the Cobras are well rested, collected and ready to bring their first home victory to Cobra Nation as they face a struggling NAL defending champs the Jacksonville Sharks who started the season 0-2 and recently lost on the road to their in-state rival Orlando Predators 52-41. A victory Saturday would keep the Cobras in the playoff hunt as the Jersey Flight and Orlando Predators are only one game ahead of the Cobras standing at 2-3.

Jacksonville may be 1-3, but their offense is starting to put the pieces together Jacksonville quarterback Danny Southwick scored five touchdowns in each of two games as the new starter for the Sharks. Cutting the Sharks quarterback from their All-NAL receiver Devin Wilson can effectively keep points off the board. The Sharks defense is giving up more than 50 points a game, a hunting sign that Carolina fans could be in for an explosive game on offense with Carolina receiver Kendrick Ings active (2nd in the NAL for TDs) the Cobras are well equipped to make that happen. Fellow receiver BJ Bunn is also up for the task, prior to the Columbus game Bunn led the team in receptions gaining 6 against the flight and 10 against the Empire. The Sharks do have one noticeable defense weapon that Carolina must avoid to control this game, that weapon is a familiar name to Cobra Nation Kenny Veal a captain from the Cobras 2019 team and a All-PIFL defensive back who is now on a hot streak with the Sharks snatching three interceptions in only two games with the Sharks.

Veal will have his hands full with Cobras star wideout Kendrick Ings who is in route to an All-NAL season with 324 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in four games. With both Jacksonville and Carolina hungry for a win this should be a great Saturday matchup for arena football fans. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. ET.
